indoor outdoor purple

Looks like today will make Austin's 64th day of 100+ heat this year, and I just couldn't deal with any outdoor projects this weekend. Instead, I stayed inside and lost a few brain cells breathing latex fumes as I painted this cute little wooden chair to use as a plant stand for the back yard.

the whole gang

See the cool maroon-leafed plant in the forefront of the above photo? It's a Hawaiian Ti plant (Cordyline Terminalis 'Red Sister') I just bought, which will become a houseplant once/if temperatures get below 50. Praying mantis approves.

I'll second the mantis approval. Plus another vote of approval for the adorably painted chair.

Just imagine how grateful we will all be for cooler temperatures and rain. A lesson in waiting and in appreciation this summer has been. Hopefully the drought/heat will be over and in the history books before long!

Great minds think alike, I guess. I found a couple of wooden kid-sized chairs out by the road during bulk trash week earlier this month, and I snagged them for plant stands. I intend to paint them, but they are nicely varnished and look good as is until I decided on colors. Nice job! Your chair looks great!

Meredith,

Thank you! I'm leaving the other two chairs in their "distressed" condition for now. I look forward to checking out more of your blog! (Do you have a Husky, too?)

Iris, I love the painted chair, potted ponyfoot combo. And good catch on the praying mantis photo. He's a cutie!

Thanks, Renee. That praying mantis stayed there for more than five minutes!

I do have a husky, Iris. He's a rescue -- we found him wandering the streets and unneutered and despite a month of searching for his owner, we couldn't locate the person. So we got him neutered, officially adopted him, and have been dealing with his mischief ever since! He's a handful, but we love him.
