garden bloggers' bloom day

Grape hyacinth--so delicate--planted long ago by a previous homeowner.

Wow. What a difference a mild winter and decent rainfall make in my attitude towards my gardens and my gardens' rejuvenation. So thrilled to see thriving plants all over our yard, I even left the weeds alone to do their thing, something I'm sure I'll regret. But after last year's historic drought, I just couldn't bring myself to care about yanking out weeds.

Carol at May Dreams Gardens invites garden bloggers from all over to share their blooms on the 15th of each month for Garden Bloggers' Bloom Day. Make sure to visit her blog to see more blooms.

young Mexican Plum tree
I can't get enough of these Mexican Plum blooms. They remind me of my grandparents' photos of Japan in the 1940s. Exquisite.

Heirloom broccoli has bolted into airy wisps that attract beneficial insects.

My first-ever iris: thanks to Annie at The Transplantable Rose for passing it along!

Verbena and Blackfoot Daisies from a few years ago have now spread like crazy.

I thought this silver bush germander was dead last October. Shows what I know.

Crazy volunteer tomato--appears to be an heirloom?--is blooming far away from last year's tomatoes.

Happy bloom day.

Everything looks so lovely. Signs of hope and life abound. Spring is good for that.

I too have let all sorts of dangerous weeds propagate and spread just because I was happy to see signs of vigorous life after all the heat and drought. I guess we'll be kicking ourselves later but right now?

If I squint and look out windows minus my corrective lenses it looks a little like how I imagine Ireland. Anything green, be it weed or veggie or flower base is such a welcome sight!

TexasDeb--
Thanks! Glad to hear I'm not the only one to pretend my weeds are just fine for now.

Wow on the grape hyacinth! I still have some coming back from years ago, but yours takes the cake. Yes, I can't believe how much is already bolting!

Yahoo on first iris! I will identify my purples and bring you some divisions.

And double wow on the verbena! Mine rarely lasts two years. Will try again this year.

LindaCTG--
I would LOVE some of your irises--thank you! I've been very pleasantly surprised at how much my verbena has spread this year. It gets plenty of sun but clearly was happy to get plenty of rain for a change, too.

Weeds! I have never seen the like as this year. We all share in the joy of the white iris from Annie-Cemetery iris I think she called them. That verbena is quite a show. Happy gardening.

Lancashire rose--
No kidding about weeds! We spent at least five hours today weeding and still have LOTS more. Yep, think that iris from Annie is commonly known as 'cemetery iris'--still so happy it bloomed. Verbena's definitely making a show, for which I'm thrilled. Happy gardening to you, too!

The weeds are the dickens this year. I'm just about caught up with them.

If you want more iris then I can bring you some more cemetary iris, the blue and gold ones, to the next get to gether. They might clash with your plumbago house though.

Bob--Thanks! I'd love some of your iris and don't think they'd clash :)
