I Know You're on Pins and Needles: Broccoli Update

I see no more yellow spots, but now some of the broccoli leaves have holes in them! The lettuces are perfect and almost ready to cut off into a salad. I anxiously mentioned the broccoli-leaf holes to husband Kurt and he dryly replied, "it's just an experiment."

Iris... that is a bug of some kind.....I have seen it before on our hibiscus and I know it does the same to some vegetable plants.
I would try some soapy water... that sometimes works.. I have always heard that you can put Ivory soap and water and spray and that is will kill some bugs..

Good luck.

Also.. when you are ready to serve that broccoli.... here is what I do.

Place on a cookie sheet and drizzle with olive oil. Add salt, pepper, and paprika. Roast in the oven for about 30 minutes at 400. It is delicious!. I also sometimes will add almonds or garlic.

Sharon,

The roasted broccoli sounds great! Thanks!

Yep, the holes are caused by bugs, probably something called cabbage worms. Yuck. I found some info online suggesting using a spray of a few drops of liquid soap, water, and "red-pepper powder." I'm guessing that's the same as cayenne?
