last of the beautiful vegetables

I sowed these "Chef's Choice Blend" [REVISED 3-3-10: cauliflower--forgot to identify them Monday] seeds from Botanical Interests in early September, and although this heirloom variety doesn't seem to produce large heads, it sure produces pretty, tasty heads.

I harvested these yesterday and there are still three others not quite ready to harvest. My chard, kale, lettuces, parsley, oregano, sage, thyme, and a little bit of broccoli are still going strong.

Even though I only lightly steamed it, its vibrant colors really faded. But it tasted great with this shrimp with spicy Thai-inspired coconut sauce (chopped ginger, garlic, onion, jalapeno, carrot, salt, coriander, and lowfat coconut milk) topped with the cilantro Mostly Weeds blogger Ellie gave me. Thanks Ellie!

Some people create art with paints - you do it with plants. If those are not the most gorgeous vegetables (again!), I'll eat my easel! (OK I don't have an easel, but I just had to go with the alliteration...)

I would say that is a darned good crop and such a pretty color too.

They are very pretty. They would make a lovely raw broccoli salad too. You are such a talented gardener.

Oh, just lovely! This inspires me to plan a spot for purple broccoli next year. Your recipe sounds like something I do: everything must include jalapenos and garlic.

TexasDeb--I sure have been lucky with growing pretty vegetables this season! Thank you and your alliteration.

Lancashire rose--Thank you! I'm very grateful.

Leslie--I'm going to eat the very last little harvest in some kind of raw salad. A teensy bit of talent and lots of luck--thank you.

The Curious Holts--It was really delicious, if I do say so myself!

Barbara--Thanks so much for adding me to your Texas bloggers list! I look forward to checking out your blog.

LindaCTG--I'm glad I'm not the only one who uses garlic and jalapeno in almost everything I cook. I use onions just as often and fresh ginger almost as often. Good thing they're all healthy ingredients, huh?

HI i just came in following your comment. The recipe is my favorite as i usually put shrimp to my favorite broccolli. However, we only have access to the green variety, how i wish we have those beautiful colors too. Your photos make my tummy respond to it.

Other posts like the black pansy is also great. I am from the tropics so we dont have this plants growing here.

Andrea--Thanks for stopping by my blog! This is actually cauliflower, although it looks more like broccoli. I look forward to checking out your blog, too!
