veggie beds: rage against the weeds
"Speckles" butterhead lettuce
In this case, horseherb was the main culprit. I like horseherb as a groundcover in other parts of the yard, but I most definitely did not like it smothering my veggie seedlings. It was my fault for letting it get so out of control. Aargh.
Usually I do my weeding quietly with a big glass of iced green tea, content to focus on the task and listen to the sounds of the neighborhood, but this time I needed extra encouragement. So, armed with a bloody mary and my iPod, I cranked up my favorite Rage Against the Machine tunes and got to work.

Yes the rain was good but oh the weeds. Good job on cleaning out your beds.
Great work! I have some prostrate spurge and horseherb that will be feeling my wrath very soon.
Jenny and Caroline--Not that I was fishing for praise (ahem), but thank you! It was lots of work, but I certainly learned a lesson about staying on top of it from now on, especially if we've had decent rains.
What fun! I have a soft spot for before/after photos. They are so satisfying, apparently even when they represent somebody else's work. Thanks for that - easiest bit of gratification I ever got.. : )
I appreciate your approach to the larger weeding task that was at hand. There is hardly anything, given our current pleasant temperatures anyway, that a bloody mary and Rage Against The Machine can't tackle.
You have been working hard! One day I am going to grow tomatoes. I will have to remember the ipod and bloody mary for my nutsedge war!
Deb and Amy--Happy you appreciated my approach and hope you don't just think I'm a lush:)
WOW! Before and after photos are so SATISFYING!! I mean, I put them up on Hungersauce, but mostly I did that for my OWN emotional satisfaction. I had no idea how satisfying viewing YOUR before and after weeding photos would be!!
you lush
KMTBERRY--Glad you liked 'em. Your before and after weeding pics were part of my inspiration!
Oh my gosh, can I borrow you?! Horseherb and every thing else has gone crazy here. I love the idea of bloody mary & weeding. Great garden tip!
Hi Linda! Glad you like my gardening tip. I don't know when I'd be available to borrow because it's ALREADY time to do more of my own weeding, but this time it's all KINDS of little weeds, not just horseherb. Oh well, we need the rain.
