A Bit More Info Regarding Laura Hall's Latest Status

Laura Hall still remains in county jail. According to the Third Court of Appeals website, Hall's appellate attorney, Ken Mahaffey, was granted his February 1st "Motion for extension of time to file brief" and now his "Status Appellant brief due" date is 3/03/08. Who knows how long it takes from the filing of that brief to oral arguments?

What exactly is his latest brief about? They've denied the motion for a new trial - what is there left for the attorney to do? Help me out here...

Neleh,

Short answer is I don't know. I presume Mahaffey's presenting the same basic arguments presented (& denied) during the motion for a new trial but to a higher (court) authority.

I mean, don't some attorneys ATTEMPT to appeal their same arguments (despite lower court rulings) all the way up to the U.S. Supreme Court?

I need to see if/how those briefs can be viewed online for free...

Iris... don't think that they can....He is basically appealing for a new trial... which would be fine with me... I think if they tried her again, the outcome would be much different than last time. We are very pleased and relieved that at least for the next year, she will remain behind bars.

Try some squash, peppers and tomatoes in your spring garden.....

Yum! Squash, tomatoes, and peppers: are these pretty easy for beginners?

Despite having planted them after Sept. 15th--I'll do it on that timeline next year--the broccoli is ready to be harvested today! I'll post pics later this afternoon. And the cauliflower plants finally have little heads, too. I'm so excited!
